When Androlib launched in June 2009, barely 5,000 applications and games had been submitted to the Android Market. This number quickly grew overtime exponentially. By the end of 2009, it would cross 20,000. Today, we are happy to announce this number surpassed 100,000. As we receive many inquiries about the number and how we compute it, here are a few specifics you might be interested in:
  • The Androlib directory covers multiple markets to cater to the needs of many international users. To that extent we do list applications and games that are not necessarily available in the US market. The following french application is a good example : SFR TV.
The overall number we give each day on the statistics page is a cross-market number, which implies that it covers more than just the US market. We might also be missing a few, as we do not cover all markets at this point.

  • Today, an Android publisher can upload an application easily within minutes. But he also can unpublish it very fuickly. You can take down an application very easily. As we see the number of applications crosses the 100,000 mark, we are confident in saying that at least 100,000 applications have been submitted to the Android market since its creation

  • For those of you who are interested in the number of active android applications, we encourage you to look at the Free/Paid download diagram. Today we evaluate that there are 83,000 active applications in the Android market.
The growth in the number of applications posted on the Android market is a testament of how excited developers from around the world are about the Android platform. As more and more users buy Android phones, users want to see an increase in the number of quality applications. To this extent, we worked really hard on giving you more search option on Androlib to help you find the right apps for you.

androliblogo.pngAndrolib.com was launched roughly a year ago. In July 2009 there was barely 5,000 Applications in the market. Now, we are closed to reaching 100,000. As the number of applications grew exponentially, we ramped up our efforts to showcase all these applications not only for the US market but for 10 other Android market. As we were ramping up our backend efforts, we were trying to bring new essential features to developers and users alike.

A few months ago, we decided to embark on the V2 journey as we quickly realized information on the site needed to be structured and presented more efficiently. In this new version of Androlib.com, you will find the following updates:

- Advanced Navigation option. Instead of looking through thousands of wallpaper apps, you can now look for the wallpaper apps over 250,000 downloads with a 4 stars + rating.

- Our search engine now predicts the application you are looking for. We hope you will love it as much as we enjoyed developing it.

- Each application page has been updated with Download estimates which gives you a better idea of the ranges. Those remain estimates but they get better every day.

- On each application page, we have an application recommender "If you like this application..." that lets you discover applications that you will enjoy having if you like the application you are currently looking at.

- We added an Android Scoreboard with all the rankings you have always wanted to see such as the applications with the largest number of ratings. Developers now have their own scoreboard too !!

- We have now a News section based on feeds submitted by external sites. Our way to push the Android Ecosystem. If you want to have your feed in there, feel free to reach out to us.

- Video Section. Within the page, you can watch discover tons of android app videos reviews without ever leaving the page.

Advanced Android Market statistics. A bit revamped to give you an ever better understanding of the Android application ecosystem.

- Each developer will be given the opportunity to customize their application pages and company page (In the Dev Corner). We will also give them access to advanced statistics tailored to their needs.

There are a few other hidden features that we will let you discover along the way. In the meantime, enjoy the New Androlib !!

Also, we plan to add new features. Stay tuned !

binary_256.pngToday, as part of Androlib V2 (more on this later) The Androlib Team is announcing that the Android Market has crossed the 1 billion download mark.

At this stage, we want to emphasize that it is an estimate and Google could prove us wrong at anytime by releasing the actual number. However, the various queries we have worked on indicate that we have indeed crossed the 1 billion mark.As we get closer to the 100,000 Application mark in the coming week, it is quite interesting to see how vibrant the ecosystem now is with over 100 worldwide downloads every second.

We will not get into too much detail about the estimate but as part of the Androlib V2, we have tried to estimate the number of downloads of any given application regardless of their download range. Day by day, as we compute more data, we will bring you even more accurate data. Stay tuned.
